Introduction

The Miami Racket Club Player Challenge is a reimagined singles flex league designed to bring together Miami's tennis and business communities through elevated competition, curated experiences, and premium rewards.

Each match is scored using a range of inputs, with the leaderboard updating daily to reflect your progress in real time. As the season unfolds, your results will unlock curated invitations, early access to limited-edition merch, and prizes from a mix of local and national brand partners.

The Spring Challenge Season will run from April 1 - June 30; one of the four Challenges we'll hold in the next twelve months. This season will include at least 8 players in each of three divisions: USTA 3.0 - 3.49, 3.5 - 3.99, and 4.0 - 4.99. The top four players from each division will play in a flex final four at the end of the season. Each division's champion will qualify to play for the annual title held this fall. There will be surprise invitations throughout the season to exclusive events, along with prizes from local and national partners including Wilson, Dunlop, Tennis Warehouse, LMNT, and others. The season opens with a social, where participants get the chance to meet other players.

The basis of the Challenge is built upon points earned and lost, which will be determined based on who you play, how you played, and how often you play.

Rules

General Format

  • Matches are flex-scheduled: Coordinate directly with your opponent to find a time and location that works for both of you.
  • USTA format: Best of 3 sets with ads. The 3rd set is a 10-point super tiebreak (unless both players agree to a full third set). When submitting scores, record the third set as 1-0 and check "Super Tiebreak."
    • For example: A match with two sets (6-0, 4-6) and a 10-point super tiebreak (10-7) should be submitted as 6-0, 4-6, 1-0.
  • If a match is interrupted (e.g. weather), resume from the same score on a new day.
  • Players who provide advance notice of a delay are granted a maximum 30-minute grace period.
  • In the case of a no-show, the match will be recorded as a walkover (6-0, 6-0), with the defaulting player receiving 0 points, under the following circumstances:
    • If no notice is given and a player is more than 20 minutes late
    • If notice is given but the player arrives over 30 minutes late
  • Cancellations made within 2 hours of match time will be treated as a late cancellation with a one set penalty (6-0) with the defaulting player receiving 0 points. Cancellations made within an hour of match time will be recorded as a walkover (6-0, 6-0), with the defaulting player receiving 0 points.
  • If a player retires mid-match (due to injury, illness, or equipment issues such as a broken racket or shoes), the match will be recorded at the actual score at the time of retirement, and the retiring player will receive the loss.
    • For Example: If Player A is leading 6-4, 2-3 at the time of retirement, the match will be recorded with that score and as a loss for Player A.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct and disrespect to your opponent will not be tolerated. Contact MRC Admins if there has been an incident. May result in a non-refunded removal from the current and future Seasons.
  • Players must be at least 18 years old.

Match Eligibility and Points System

  • You can play any player in any division at any time.
  • Keep in mind that points are more easily earned by playing opponents closer to your level. You may even earn points by losing a tight match against a better opponent!
  • Brackets are re-evaluated only at season's end, at which points players will be moved up or down for the following season's bracket.
  • Yes, you can play the same player multiple times and earn or lose points accordingly.

Match Submission

  • The winning player must submit the match via "Submit a Match" form.
  • Points update daily by the next morning.
  • You will have the opportunity to rate your opponent post-match (punctuality, ease of coordination, sportsmanship). This data is private and reviewed only by MRC admins.

End of Season Tournament

  • Players must play at least 5 matches against at least 4 different opponents in order to qualify for the flex final four tournament or wildcard prizes.
  • The top four players from each division will play in a flex final four playoff that is single elimination. Best of 3 sets with ads. The 3rd set is a 10-point super tiebreak.
  • If there is a tie in points within the top four players, their head to head record will act as a tiebreak. If tied still, the next tiebreaker will be each player's season game win percentage.
